Audience feedback from 'Teenage dream'

I decided it would be a good idea to gather some audience feedback for my chosen song 'Teenage Dream' so I could get a response on  what they would expect in the music video. I asked twelve people who were all in my target audience, in order to get a variety of opinions within the teenage age group. When looking at the feedback many of the people who I asked expressed that they think I should do a hybrid video of performance and narrative with bright colours and lights. Due to the lyrics of the song being focused around love many of the people I asked said I should include a love interest in the music video. I will use this feedback to aid me in the making of my music video because I plan to use a number of these ideas to cater to my target audience.

Intertextuality.

What is intertextuality?

Image result for family guy star warsIntertextuality is when a certain areas in media are referred to in another form, this can just be a reference to another media form or it can be done on a larger scale where things are recreated. This is done on music videos because it attracts a wider audience and allows the audience to have a better understanding. An example of this can be seen in love actually 'Christmas is All around' which uses Robert Palmer's 'Addicted to love'.

Types of music videos

When researching to music videos there is a wide range of styles and commonly these can be divided into three categories:

The first type of music video is narrative  which tells the story along with the video to help create a bigger impact on the audience and so they can develop a better understanding of what the song is about. An example of this is the Taylor Swift song 'Love Story' which follows the love story, as indicated by the name, of the artist and a young man. This style appeals to the audience because they get to follow the story line therefore developing a better understanding of the song.
The second type of music video is concept which is an obscure and abstract style that unlike narrative does not follow a particular story. An example of this the music video 'Do I Wanna Know?' by Arctic Monkeys which uses computer technology to create the image displayed. This type of music video appeals to the audience because it something therefore making it intriguing.

The final type of music video is performance which is when an artist or band film them playing there music with some performing to there audience or my example just performs to the camera and the video is called 'Addicted to Love' By Robert Palmer. This final type of music video appeals to the audience because the artist is the main focus for the video therefore fans will want to watch it.

It starts by showing the name of the band in bright lights in order to draw attention therefore making the name memorable. Then close up camera angles introduces the instruments featured in the song with the movement to different instruments matching the beat and when they are played. To introduce the whole band, in this performance based music video, a long-shot and a tilt is used to show how they are on stage. The bright lights being used throughout draw attention certain areas, for example lights shine on the band members instruments making them stand out. When looking at the mise en scene the band all have there face paints and outfits on which represent there unique style and to represent the genre there are close ups of the members pulling a rock and roll face with there tongues out. The video is fast paced in order to match the rhythm and style of song
